I'm running on Mac OS X. I set up a CVS repository on my local machine in
~/cvsrep. I keep getting can not connect to host errors when I try to access
it from Eclipse.

Is there some reason I shouldn't be able to do this?

I think local CVS repositories can't be used. Did you set up a CVS
server?
