Hi! 
I'd like to use the spell checking capabilities of Eclipse, but how do you  
add a "platform dictionary" and where to get one for other languages (in  
my case, French)?

This is more a platform question, not a JDT question.  Using  
Window->Preferences->General->Editors->Text Editors->Spelling you could  
point it to a user defined dictionary.  I guess other languages would  
normally be provided by the translation pack, but one hasn't been  
provided for Eclipse 3.3.  It would need to come from Babel:
