First, I am running Mac OS X 10.5.1 (Leopard)
I would like to be able to use the
Help > Software Updates > Find and Install...
to get things installed...it just seems easier to go this route -
assuming that it works.
So, I select the
Search for new features to install
option and press 'Next >'.
I then select 'New Remote Site...' and enter
Name: PDT
URL: http://downloads.zend.com/pdt
I check:
Europa Discovery Site
PDT
The Eclipse Project Updates
and press 'Finish'.
The update manager searches for some stuff and I then get the 'Updates'
dialog.
In the 'Select the features to install' list, I see:
Europa Discovery Site
PDT
The Eclipse Project Updates
PDT Updates
I check & select PDT and get an error which states:
Zend Debugger Feature (5.2.12.v20071210) requires feature
"org.eclipse.php_feature (1.0.0)", or later version.
How can I install this using Help > Software Updates > Find and
Install...?
If I check & select PDT Updates, I get an error which states:
PDT Feature (1.0.1.v20071210-79-78E7QYGHEPYPG) requires feature
"org.eclipse.wst (2.0.0)", or compatible.
How can I install this using Help > Software Updates > Find and
Install...?
If I check and select either, both or neither 'PDT' and 'PDT Updates'
and press the 'Select Required', nothing extra is selected.
Should I be able to get this stuff installed using Help > Software
Updates > Find and Install...?

Thanks. I'm sure that's another piece of the puzzle, however, when I try
to install Webtools, I get the error message:
WST Common UI (2.0.1.v200709110622-7C5EH2E9RvTVnijrspVz0bgOmfz-)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.draw2d (3.2.0)", or compatible.
Now, if I search for org.eclipse.draw2d, find

(if you want to check to see where the tiny url goes first)
which appears to be documentation on the draw2d package on which the
Webtools package seems to depend.
But, based on the documentation here, I cannot determine the location
from which I can download this package.
Perhaps it should be:
http://download.eclipse.org/draw2d/updates
(following the same form as webtools)
I haven't tried this yet, but I am about to. When one gets one of those
cryptic error messages about a required plug-in, what is the
easiest/best way to determine where it can be obtained?

In any case, I tried downloading the '
pdt-all-in-one-S20071213_M1-macosx-carbon.tar.gz' from the site you
mentioned and went to go see if there were any dependencies that weren't
included in this all-in-one and I found a couple...
The Eclipse Project Updates requires:
Eclipse RCP Patch 1 for 3.3.1 (3.3.1.v20071002_331) requires feature
"org.eclipse.rcp (3.3.1.R33x_r20070802-8y8eE8sEV3Fz0z0GlHJrXvTAUS)".
The XML Schema Infoset Model (XSD) Updates requires:
EMF Model Query OCL Integration (1.1.0.v200706071712-10-7w311817182823)
requires plug-in "org.eclipse.emf.ocl (1.1.0)", or compatible.
I'm assuming this is a genuine problem...

Yes, you should. I'm not sure why it is not working as expected in your
case, but here's one shot-in-the-dark: A few days ago I responded to a
newsgroup question about a possible bug in the Select Required
functionality. The person asking the question seemed to observe that
unless a particular update site was expanded in the list, Select
Required would not search it. So can you try your scenario again, this
time making sure to expand the Europa site before hitting Select Required?

Thanks. I'll play around with it a bit more and see if I can get it
working. This whole Eclipse thing looks pretty cool.
It seems silly that collapsed sites would not be searched...I assume
this is considered to be a bug...?

Hence the effort underway in Eclipse 3.4 to replace it. The bug talked
about that.
