Connection reset while synchronizing [message #235727] Wed, 28 April 2004 03:02 Go to next message

I am having a serious problem with Eclipse 2.1.3, with a specific PC:

I have install Eclipse 2.1.3 on a brand new laptop running WinXP, latest
version and drivers.

Each time I try to make a sync on the cvs server (or to browse the cvs
server, or to "replace with something"), I get a "Socket exception:
connection reset", and then the network connection is dead, and the only
way out is to reboot. This problem is exactly described in bug #38430 and
#27077.

The network card is a Realtek RTL8139C, and of course since it is a laptop
there is no way to change it.

Is there any hope this problem will be fixed in 2.1? in 3.0?

Thanks.

I've upped the priority of the bug and hopefully there will be time to
addess it in 3.0. Does this only happen with pserver or does it happen
with extssh as well?

I haven't tried yet with something else than pserver. I intend to test ssh
next friday. The result I get in the debug log is exactly the same as
described in bug #27077. The only work around I have found so far is to
synchronize (checkout, submit, replace...) one by one the sources instead
of a full project or directory.

I have many other installations with other kind of network cards that work
perfectly. The laptop itself works faultlessly apart from this problem.

Does this happen if you use the command line cvs commands?
I've seen "differences" between the two, and someone helped me
get eclipse working when CVS seemed to be "hung".

Once the command line CVS commands were issued and the files were locally
available and everything was "in sync" Eclpise worked fine.

Sorry I can't give more details. I was new to Eclipse and CVS at the time.

Also in your original post, you said "the network connection is dead". I'm
assuming that you meant the Eclipse CVS network connection not the entire PC's
NIC card LAN connection. If it was the LAN card, then you've got a different
problem.

No when I say the network connection is dead, I really mean it. You cannot
even reboot the PC, you have to switch it off. And all "explorer" tasks
are not responding anymore.

I haven't tried with cvs command line yet, but I am sure it will work.
Actually that's quite a good idea as a workaround for this problem.

FYI I can copy back and forth, several times, a 700Mb file from the server
to the laptop with no problems, and eclipse cvs is the only application
that kills the NIC interface.

Excellent! I changed the connection type to extssh and it works perfectly.
Of course it is a bit slower but I don't care. So the bug is only with
pserver type of connection.
