newbie can't get started [message #226037] Sat, 10 April 2004 20:39 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
I just downloaded vM8 for Windows (XP), but I can't get the app to start.

When I double click it, a log message generates with the following in it:

!SESSION ------------------------------------------------------------ -------

!ENTRY org.eclipse.core.launcher 4 0 Apr 10, 2004 20:12:27.437
!MESSAGE Exception launching the Eclipse Platform:

I also tried setting the vm by the command prompt as per the eclipse faq,
but entering both 'eclipse.exe -vm c:\program
files\java\j2re1.4.2_04\bin\javaw.exe' or '
eclipse.exe -vm C:\Program Files\Java\Sun\AppServer\jdk\bin\javaw.exe '
earns me a dialog saying that "no Java virtual machine could be found at the
location: c:\program".

Just to make sure, I checked add/remove programs and saw that both the
1.4.2_04 jre and 1.4.2_02 sdk were listed there.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

- Eric

downloaded and installed entire sdk (1.4.2_04) and deinstalled Oracle
evaluation which had set its vm (1.1.3) in the path.
