I've been "gone" from Eclipse (by assignments, not by my choice) for over
a half year. Therefore, I'm getting surprised by changes/ behaviors
introduced while Eclipse's evolution during my absence.
Granted, perhaps "changes" are of my own doing as I have performed a fresh
install of 3.1.2 and piddled about in my Preferences. Maybe I turned on
things I didn't before when I used 3.0?
The behavior I'm finding most annoying at the momemnt is that the JDT
editor "routinely" selects a region of interest for me and eliminates all
surrounding context. E.g. if I click on an annotation in the Problems
view, I jump to the problem (as desired), but it is not the expected
"rapid scroll" into the code. Rather, the problem I've clicked is
presented only in the context of the containing method. I can no longer
scroll up and down through the entire class/ file to see the problem in
larger context. Maybe narrow focus promotes better OO thinking, but I'm
personally not very thrilled, especially when I want to go back to coding
some other portion of the class/file.
The only reliable way "out" that I've found is a CTRL-L 1 (goto line 1).
I have also been able to click on the class in the Package Explorer, but I
don't this this always works.
"Focus" also occurs when I double-click on the left bar, as in
accidentally bouncing my mouse button when setting a breakpoint.
Did I turn this feature on? Better: How can I turn it off???

You turned it on...and you can turn it off :-)
In the editor toolbar there is an action called "Show Source of Selected
Element Only"
The icon is a text document with a smaller embedded text document.
Toggle this off

I have been arguing that it is a UI usability bug that the 'turn this off'
button is so badly placed. There have been *many* questions before about this
issue, which indicates that people have problems with it.
If you agree (or disagree) you can add your opinion here:
