Team -> Upload - Where did it go? [message #221060] Fri, 02 April 2004 16:19 Go to next message

Hello All,

I've been using 3.0 M6 for a while now and have bee relying on the ftp
plugin for deploying my code to my test web server. It worked quite well.
Recently, I upgraded to M8 and found that the Team->Upload context menu is
gone. The only way I know how to upload a file if I click the synchronize
button, find the file I want to synchronize in the wizard that pops up,
check it off, click finish (which opens up the team synchronizing
perspective), then click to upload my file.

Is there any shorter way to do this? I do uploads MANY times a day and
it's usually for just one file at a time. If not can we bring the old
"Upload" menu item back? I've been looking for some documentation on this
but the documentation that came with the plugin is still for Eclipse 2.0
and is quite out of sync.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Joe

The FTP plugin has been intergrated into the new sync framework. There
are now two ways to work with FTP

1) When you want to upload, Choose Export, select FTP and click next.
The wizard allows you to associate any folder (not just a project) with
a remote FTP location.

2) If you'd rather se the sync view, you can perform the above step once
and subsequently use the sync view to upload changed resources.

There is a separate download on the download page for each Eclipse
build. It is near the bottom of the download page so you'll need to
scroll down to see it.

Michael,

10x - I used to use this for 2.X but switch to the more 'native' for me
Update Site - so, forgot the first one.

Some questions, if you don't mind :-))

1. When something like 'kernel' + Update Site is planned for 3.X?
2. If I want to distribute 'main eclipse' + 'my-plugins' as one download
+ Update Site for it, what's your advise?

Sam,

I can't really offer any advice on the use of Update sites (since I
don't know much about them). You may want to post your question to the
newsgroup with a different subject so those with Update Site knowledge
will be more likely to read it.

Any ideas why this isn't included in the standard eclipse build ?

Because the plugins are not supported at the same quality level as those
in the SDK. They are offered more as examples than products but are
still useful to some.
