On startup eclipse uses all the memory [message #219612] Thu, 01 April 2004 01:47 Go to next message

I am trying to run eclipse 2.1.3rc2-linux-motif on box running
Debian/Testing and it doesn't complete the startup. I couldn't find this
issue in the FAQ.

It shows the splash screen and then uses all the CPU and eats memory,
both phyiscal and virtual until after about 10 minutes all the memory is
used up and the jvm exits. This happens with java 1.4.1 and 1.3.

Is there something fundamental that I missed here?

Here is some debug output:

$ /usr/local/eclipse/eclipse -debug -vm /usr/local/j2re1.4.1/bin/java
-consoleLog -data /home/glenn/eclipse

By accident I found the solution to this problem here:

http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-swt-home/faq.html#usingLessTif

Even though the FAQ says it should work fine with lessTif, in my case it
doesn't work at all. FYI the lessTif versions installed on my system are

ii lesstif1 0.93.18-4 OSF/Motif implementation released
under LGPL
ii lesstif2 0.93.41-1 OSF/Motif 2.1 implementation released
under

Maybe the FAQ could be updated?
