I have an extension on the platform side of my GMF editor. Its an extra
drop down menu in which contains several functions.

In one of these functions I need to retrieve data from which ever of the
GMF editor tabs are active.

Specifically Im looking for the file location of that tab.

Hello John,

Seems like you are looking for org.eclipse.ui.IWorkbenchPage.getEditorReferences()
method.
