Recently, I came accross an out of memory error and I had to shut down
eclipse the improper way. I logged off, then back on, and restarted
eclipse, but after it got through the "loading workspace" stage, eclipse
just seemed to stop. It still showed as a running process in the task
manager, but nothing appeared on the screen, and I couldn't tell it was
running. I'm thinking the .metadata file got corrupt, but I'm wondering if
there's any way to restore my preferences. Is there any way to do this, or
get the workspace back to how it was?
Thanks,
Peter

No, unfortunately it doesn't. I think the .metadata folder got corrupted,
but I was wondering if there was any way to resurrect my preferences from
that.

Many of your preferences are probably stored per-project. Those ones you
can get back by blowing away the .metadata directory, creating a new
workspace in the same location, and then importing all the projects with
"Import Existing Project into Workspace".
But that won't restore your workspace-wide prefs. You might be able to get
somewhere by blowing away individual subdirectories under the .metadata
folder, i.e., just killing the prefs of one plug-in at a time.
