Eclipse requires at least a 1.4.1 VM as indicated on the download page.
Use the -vm argument to specify the path to a 1.4.1 VM install.

That is for Eclipse 3.0
IIRC, Eclipse 2.x will work with JDK 1.3.x

No, probably not. I have the same problem - JVM Terminating Exit Code
1. I am using Eclipse 2.1.1 and jdk 1.4.2_01

If you have an ATI chip that might be the problem. You either need the
latest in the 1.3 series of JVM's.

For the gent with 1.4.2_01, I would up it to the latest 1.4.2_03 and see
if that fixes your issues.
