switch to second desktop for debug in linux [message #200939] Sat, 01 September 2007 10:23 Go to next message

Hi,

I have to debug a GUI-program which nearly fills the whole screen of my
monitor. But also the Eclipse-Window is filling the screen.

With linux there are two desktops between which I can switch with a mouse
click. A nice feature would be to have Eclipse on the first desktop and
the debugger perspective on the second.
Is this possible? Has somebody experience with it?

Hello Nikosch,

I haven't tried it for CDT, but you could open a second window in
eclipse (Menu Window\New Window) herein you could use the debugger.

To stitch it to a defined desktop it depends on your setup. I am using
devilspie (yes it IS its name ;-)) you can configure any
windowname/captionname to switch to a defined desktop.

hope it helps...

regards

Hi,

this looks like the solution I am searching for.
But I have no idea how to configure a windowname to switch to a defined
desktop. Is this a function of eclipse or of linux?
I am working with openSuse 10.1. How do you do it with "devilspie"?

okay fine part one of your request seems to be solved...

The next step is your desktop. Under Suse I think you are working with
kde. Here I am not sure if devilspie will work, afaik devilspie is a
gnome tool. Maybe it is also possible to manage kde desktops...
Your Eclipse caption/windowtitle changes, if you are in the debug
session. Isn't it? You can setup devilspie to use a regex for the
caption, so it will always move your regexed windowtitle to your wished
desktop.

Hi, my answer comes late, because I was on a business travel.

Thank you for the tip. But the solution with devilspie sounds quite
complicated for me as a newcomer. I will check it when I am more familiar
with my working environment.
