WTP Book: Can't find Database Explorer view [message #199479] Fri, 07 September 2007 08:27 Go to next message

I must be missing something pretty simple. I'm working through the WTP book
and got to page 73 where one opens the "Database Explorer" view.....and
there's no "Database Explorer" view in the collection of views in "Show
View". (Nor, "Data" catagory, nor "Data Output" view). Hmm.

It is pretty early in the morning for me, but I did check that I had
everything installed (J2EE Project SDK 2.0.0, Web Standard Tools Project SDK
2.0.0). I'm running Europa 3.3.

Any hints?

Thanks

Hello, Daniel.

Check that "Data tools" are installed (there should be about 50 entries
with plugin id starting with "org.eclipse.datatools" in help->about
eclipse sdk->plugin details; actually precise number of entries is not
important while it is more that 0 :) ).

Also check that you start eclipse on jdk 5.0 (i'm pretty sure that you
use 5.0, but who knows... )

Vadim,
thanks for the quick reply. The data tools plugins are there v
1.0.0.200706071 and I'm running JDK 1.5.

Are there "connectivity"->"Data Source Explorer" view? It's the only
view that Data tools add if no perquisites except eclipse 3.3/JDK5.0 are
satisfied.
If there are no such a view, maybe datatools are just disabled. You can
check it help->software updates->manage configuration.
If view is there, then maybe EMF/XSD or GEF is not installed.
I'm afraid I can't recommend you anything more than that. However it
looks more like DT problem that WTP. Maybe on DT's newsgroup you will
get more help.

The Database Explorer view was renamed with the move of the WTP data tools
into the DTP project. In 2.0 the view is the Connectivity -> Data Source
Explorer view as Vadim noted above.

That explains everything. I did come across this view and it looked like a
good candidate, but given that I'm a newbie to WTP and the book was
published in May of this year and there was nothing in the Errata for it, I
figured I was just missing something.

Thanks

As the lead time for publishing a book is several months, the book is
based on WTP 1.5. Most of the tools should still be named the same and
function the same. You just happened on a big change in the data tools
moving to a new top level project.
