I have a long string problem. What I want to happen is for the long strings
to be truncated and then popup the full string in a tooltip with a mouseover
and have it hyperlink to itself (it's a url of unknown length). I also want
to force a maximum width of the table. Birt 2.1.0 seems to allow the long
strings to dictate the width of the table when the report is run for html
(pdf reports break the string up based on table width correctly). I made a
computed column with the string truncated when it exceeds a certain length,
but this doesnt look so nice because the font I am using has variable width
depending on the character. I'd like the table to chop off the end of the
string once it fills the set column width and then pop up the entire string
in the tooltip as i mentioned before. If anyone knows how to do this in
Birt I would love to hear how you did it. If anyone has any suggestions of
things I might try, that would be nice too. Also if anyone has problems
with string length and column widths, please post about them. This isn't
the first time I have had a problem with this issue.
Oh and about the tooltips. I know how to do them in charts in Birt, but I
dont know how to do them in a data element's hyperlink in a table. Anyone
know?
