efxclipse 3.x and the path to 4.0 [message #1855085] Wed, 28 September 2022 03:51 Go to next message

The following is only important for those consuming the runtime of e(fx)clipse.

We think it is now the time to think about the next steps for e(fx)clipse and we want to layout out what we (BestSolution who does most of the work) think is best for the future of the project.

We've already started a long time ago an effort remove PDE/maven-tycho from the runtime (build) and make our projects PURE maven artifacts. After the release of e(fx)clipse 3.9 we will concentrate on moving this forward which is going to be easier (as it used to be) because the Eclipse Platform releases all its bits to maven-central since some time.

The plan for the main-branch looks like this:
- Merge the latest changes from 3.x-branch to master
- Restructure the projects (eg split projects, ...)
- Remove Java-8 support

We will still provide a target platform so you can still use Eclipse-PDE for development but our main target will be pure maven.

That sounds awesome. Happy to help out with testing, sample projects etc.

Any progress on this? I am very keen to convert to maven-only config for my projects.

Sorry for my silence but I've been overwhelmed by company work (mainly TS) - I just today started downloading the latest Version of Eclipse and started updating the code. So for the runtime I guess I need to do a release based on PDE and not follow my initial plan to provide a maven based version.

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the update.
I will be pleased to test and provide you with feedbacks.

Which version of JavaFX will you use to compile efx runtime please ?

Regards,
Stéphane.
