3.1 M2: complete sometimes takes forever (and 110% cpu) [message #179711] Tue, 28 September 2004 04:37 Go to next message

hi

writing this is hard, eclipse is working in the background taking 80% cpu
(not 110;)

sometimes autocomplete (ctrl-space) takes forever and the process explorer
states that eclipse is taking above 80% cpu and making 100000 io reads a
second
by example, autocompleting a single in-type method took 3 minutes (1.6
centrino), but I had three projects opened w. approx. 600 files in all...
(just flame me, but I did an in-type completion?)

Is this a commonly known feature or should I just decrease my expectations?

thanks!

actually, sometimes, the figures was above 2000 jar reads (killing if over
network)

went back to 3.0.1, no problems (still slow, but bareable :)
- made bug about it.

I can confirm that - and it's starts driving me nuts! Sometimes it
seems to enter some mode (or should I say "mood"?) , where after every
few keyboard strokes or mouseclicks it starts working like madly. If
so I often even have trouble to bring up the taskmanager... After
30-60 seconds this outburst is usually over, but a few keystrokes or
just trying to scroll in the editor: same story!

I am on eclipse 3.0.1.

I assume you filed a bug report with VM dumps so that it can be tracked
down, right?
