Background : Converting an Eclipse 3.x RCP application to E4

I have a Main window with a Menu and a Toolbar. The toolbar can be hidden if required.

Both menu and toolbar have an item that is of type "checked" and they are attached to the same Handler and Command. There states should be in sync at all times, but there seems no mechanism to link the two items together.

It seems wrong for the handler class to know what items are attached too it as that would go against the idea of defining these connections declaratively in the Application.e4xmi file.

Is there a way to associate the items together?
