I have created some report parameters of type "DateTime". I can provide it
a default value of something like "01/01/2006" and it works good if I
preview the design. But if I use the BIRT web viewer and pass the exact
same value to it, or any other date value, it says "The value "01/01/2006"
is invalid with the type "dateTime". What might I be doing wrong?
Also, under default value in the Edit Parameter dialog, it says "enter date
values as MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm:ss AM/PM". Where is this configurable in case I
want users to enter a different format?

Ah yes. Definitely one of the less intuitive UIs in BIRT. I think I can
help.
Let's assume for the sake of argument you want to use one of the
"out-of-the-box" date formats. In this example, we'll use Short Date since
it's close to your requested format - 1/1/2006.
Right-click your parameter, and then left-click Edit. Set your default
value to 1/1/2006 (or whatever). Then, believe it or not, you're going to
use the Display As fieldset and click the Change button after "Format string
as:". Select the Short Date format (which today would be 6/20/06), and
click OK. Click OK again.
You could also select a Custom Date format, but the above should get you
started.
best,
-d.

Wow, I actually considered doing that, then thought, "nah, that won't work,
that's only for displaying."
I will try it out. Thank you for your help.
