hi
i have a problem reading data from an xml file which is over the net on a remote machine(example: http://10clicksurveys.com/FILES/test.xml).
i was wondering if BIRT allows to read from a URL that is not local. if it does why am i getting an error that it cant be retrieved.
what i do is when i make a new data source i choose xml as a data source type and then it asks for the url. after that when i try to make a new data set it asks for an url again and when i enter the above url and click on next, it gives me an error that it cant rerieve data.
here is the detail of the error:
<i>An unexpected internal exception occurred. Please see log for detail.
Plug-in Provider:Eclipse.org
Plug-in Name:BIRT Designer UI
Plug-in ID:org.eclipse.birt.report.designer.ui
Version:2.0.1
Error Code:Error.GUIException.invokedByUnexpectedException
Error Message:XML data source cannot be retrieved.XML data source file is invalid or the file doesn't exist.</i>

Can you try any of the 2.1RC builds. This issue should have been resolved.

hi there
thanx for your help, but...
i tried to install the RC4 build but it wont allow me since im using the eclipse 1.0.2 it requires eclipse 1.2. <b>currently im using BIRT Release Build 2.0.1 is this no good?!</b>. i was wondering if anyone else has the same problem!!
as i stated before my problem is accessing the data source which is an xml file on a remote machine.
<b>what we're trying to do here is to have an spring application generete an xml url and then use the same url in our report as the data base.</b>
do i need to have the report viewer installed before i can do this?(im new to this application and im in desperate need for help)
thanx a million

Sina,
For reference your issue is the same as this bugzilla entry
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=124989
This was fixed after 2.0.1 was released.
regards,
