| Changing the default JRE in WSAD5.1 [message #164804] | Tue, 02 December 2003 14:10 | |
| Eclipse User | | | | | Hi All, I need to change the default jre in wsad 5.1 The JRE presently shipped
with WSAD 5.1 is version 1.3.1. This does not support SSL by default. Does
ne one know how to change this to 1.4.2. I have tried setting this in the
Window->Preferences->Java->Installed JREs. I removed the default jre and
point the jre v 1.4.2. Well it still does not seem to pick it up. All my
system class path and path variables point to v 1.4.2. The default values
in WSAD can be viewed in Help-> About IBM .......-> Configuration Details.
I have tried the same with Eclipse 2.1 and it behaves normally. i.e if i
change the system JRE and point Eclipse to it, it does it up.
Where as in WSAD the new JRE is reflected only in the Run Time Workbench.
 Any help is greatly appreciated.
 thanx
 Ajay

You might also try the WSAD newsgroups over at news.software.ibm.com

There are (at least) three JREs involved with WSAD. The JRE WSAD itself
runs on (1.3.1). The JRE for a given non-WAS project (by default the
same as the JRE WSAD runs on, but easy to switch). And the JRE that WAS
and WAS apps run on (JRE 1.3.1 inside of the WebSphere Test Environment
 (WTE)).

You can change the one that non-WAS apps run on.

You can also make WSAD run on a different JRE, but that is not supported
and is probably not what you want.

You cannot change the JRE the WTE is running in. Well, you might be
able to force it to try to start, but I believe WAS checks when it
starts. Any anyway, the WTE is meant to be what WAS is running on in
production, which means the JRE that ships with WAS. WSAD 5.1 added the
J9 JVM for running WAS in debug for hot-method replace, but it is still
 1.3.1.

WAS 5.1 was recently announced, which supports JDK 1.4.something.
Normally we try to keep the most current WTE in step with the most
 current WAS.

I hope this helps - I was not sure which JRE you wanted to change.
