The JNDI data source feature is now added in the BIRT oda.jdbc driver,
as of 2.1 RC5. It supports the use of a JNDI Name Service to look up a
Data Source resource factory to get a pooled JDBC connection.

Please see more feature description in the Bugzilla entry 131662.

Is it possible to override the data source embedded within the rptdesign
by passing an external JDBC java.sql.Connection object via API? If yes,
please let me know how using a code snippet.

Thanks.

that should address your question.
