Triangle: How to reuse OR how to define connection points for custom figure [message #154006] Mon, 08 October 2007 04:13 Go to next message

Hi,

For my editor I need a simple triangle figure.

1. I suppose there should be some triangle already out there. Can anyone
tell me what resource to load or where to find such simple geometric
figures and how to reuse them?

alternatively:

2. For now I've defined a new figure as a scalable polygon with three
template points that yield a triangle. But now any connections made to the
triangles do not align with the triangle itself but with a rectangular box
around the triangle. How to define the connection points for a custom
figure properly?

In general, where can I find documentation about the possibilities to
define custom figures so I can stop bothering you people with silly newbie
questions? I know the tutorials but they only contain simple examples, no
full documentation of all the elements you can add in your .gmfgraph to
compose custom figures.

Thx,
Christoph

Hi Christoph!

Do you know this weblocation?
< http://wiki.eclipse.org/GMF_Documentation_Index#Custom_Figur es>

Thanks Nicolai,

but I'm still missing some documentation about all the elements you can
add to your figures when designing a graphical model. How do you people
know what all the different borders, points, decorations, layouts etc.
are for? I imagine that there should be some element that allows me to
define the exact shape of my figure so connections to the figure align
correclty. But how to find out what to choose?

I'm sorry. I can't help you much further. All I know is that
there may be no such documentation. Since GMF uses GEF to
draw a diagram you may look at the GEF docs where you may
find the same or similar terms.

I hope another newsgroup reader can answer your question
directly!

Cheers,
Nicolai

This is an apprehensive resource. But the answer to my questions
regarding this seems to elude me.

To ask generally: Is there any example or showcase of an ellipse,
triangle, or anything else than a rectangle which connects properly to a
connection - surely that must exist?
