What are the improvements of CDT v3 over v2? Should I upgrade to CDT v3
now??

I'd wait until we announce that its fully available.
We're testing the bejesus out of it right now.

There are a lot of improvements with CDT v3 over v2. The main improvements
that I am aware of are correctness and performance. Just search
http://bugs.eclipse.org/ for bugs marked as FIXED against CDT targets
3.0-3.0 RC2 and you'll find more than 400 results. Your best bet would be
to wait for the full CDT 3.0 release scheduled for sometime in July.

That's so cool. But does it provide easier end-user configuration of
compiler/debugger toolchains?

I have downloaded v3 anyways.

* The indexer is still slow.
* Name completion doesn't work (even though I turned that on).
* Drag and drop is still not in the editor.
* Auto save is gone somehow, I now have to manually save all the files.
* Managed build can't be run in background.
* There's still no margin for the editor (does anyone find it visually
challenging?? I somehow have to indent the whole file)

Frustrated, I decided that v3 at this stage is just not too much better than
v2, so i quickly switched back to v2.1
