Setup file for platform.ui - anybody working on it? [message #1462428] Wed, 05 November 2014 10:10 Go to next message

After seeing https://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform_UI/Plan/4.5/Planning_Bugs I though about having a look at some of the bugs to help out, however, the setup pain of platform ui came into play ...

Is anybody working on a PlatformUI.setup file? I guess realizing https://wiki.eclipse.org/Platform_UI/How_to_Contribute as such a file would already go a great way!

If not, I'd be having a shot on it! -> Opened a bug https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=450165

Hi Marco,

I know that Ed was working on the entire Platform.setup and is working on JDT.setup. You should wait until tomorrow and
see what Ed thinks ;-)

Cheers

Thanks a lot for the info Eike! Could you think about a section "Contribution" in oomph projects, pointing to a web location where it is really easy to add URLs to setup models? E.g. a eclipse wiki page, where one may simply add an url and it gets included to this product section??

Marco,

Sorry it took so long to answer. I've been working on JDT.setup and ran
into several problems, two in Oomph itself and one in JDT. That later I
spent days trying to track down and boiled down to this old problem:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=226849 I've found a
workaround and proposed a fix to the JDT team, so hopefully that one
goes away...

In any case, there is now a JDT.setup in the catalog. If you provision
Oomph itself you'll find a path /setups/interim/platform.setup with my
old attempt at materializing the entire platform SDK. I plan to split
this into much smaller setups for individual projects, much like I've
done already now for JDT. Certainly you're more than welcome to try to
help write some of these parts and contribute them!

At this point I prefer to monitor what is being contributed to make sure
it's sensible and works well because if we fill up the catalog with
things that don't work properly, people will lose confidence in the
quality of what's provided...
