Hi,

I don't know how they are really called, but there are these arrowed
quadratic lollipop like popups when the mouse moves over a node on the
diagram.

I assume they can be used to start a connection (at least it looks like
that to me).

Can anyone point me in the right direction to where information can be
found on how to use and deactivate them?
There must be something like assigning a connector to these little
friends, right?

Richard,

Check out the Connection Creation Assistants tutorial in the GMF help:
http://help.eclipse.org/help32/topic/org.eclipse.gmf.doc/tut orials/diagram/connectionCreationAssistantTutorial.html

Note: This tutorial is written from a diagram runtime perspective
before the GMF code generator existed.

And it should be possible to turn them off by default in diagram
preferences.

Also, you can generate code that has no connection assistants for
all/selected nodes.
