Eclipse linux version(gtk) slow [message #10219] Thu, 24 April 2003 09:36 Go to next message

Hi,

Latest gtk version of eclipse(2.1) on linux is very slow, I've tested on
redhat 8.0 and 9.0 with ibm and sun jdk.
I saw eclipse 2.1 on windows and is working great, on linux is working
like an swing application (incredible slow).
Somebody told me that eclipse is running decent on a redhat 7.2, I guess
he is using an older version of gtk.
I have 448M RAM.
Any ideas?

P.S. I didn't test the motif version yet.

Works like a champ for me on RedHat 9. Of course, hardware power is not a
concern. My system specs:
2 GHz Xeon
1 GB of RAM
Fast hard drives

Be sure to give it a good heap size. -Xmx256M is a good idea. Although that was true in earlier versions, too.

Also the blackdown jvm (blackdown.org) is a bit faster.
