You should probably give a try to the EMFT Search component :
http://www.eclipse.org/modeling/emft/?project=search#search.

It provides the fundamental infrastructure and components for search
queries on EMF based models. By default, Search results are
automatically linked with the generated EMF Tree Structure editor, but
it should be possible to customize this a little to map results with a
GMF editor.

I have added the EMFT newsgroup to the "to" list of my reply, I am sure
Lucas could help you more.

Regards,
Jacques

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Its amazing how absurdly simple it was to generate a simple search engine
using this
http://wiki.eclipse.org/EMF_Search---Custom_Textual_Search_G eneration .

Right now its a good compromise since it searches the backing xml file. I
am sure with more reading and few pointers I can incorporate it in the
main diagram file.
Will repost to this message with fully qualified results later.

Thanks

Vineet

Vineet, I just loved your quote ;-) I'm a quite absurd driven guy myself
sometimes ! as for me that's the way all EMF based meta tools should
work : ABSURDLY WELL !

I can give a hand for the diagram stuff if you need after your
preliminary study
