Earlier, in M2, if you tried to edit a read only file, the keystrokes were
ignored. Now, in M3, the editor hides the content of the file and giving a
message indicating file “foo.java” is read only.
To get rid of this message, you have to close the file from the editor and
open it again.
This is inconvenient and IMHO, the right solution will be to inform the
same in the status bar.

It would be better if it prompted you to change the read only status
whenevr you tried to edit a read only file. Its kind of annoying to
have to go through properties dialog of the resource to change the read
only status of a file just so you can edit it.
