In orphan-add process, can the child editpart be copied instead of move? [message #114639] Thu, 29 January 2004 05:12 Go to next message

Hi, all.

I want the child editpart to be copied, when Ctrl key is pressed while
orphan-add process.
I've pressed the Ctrl key while draging the editpart, but it is still
moved...

Is there any method to copy editpart, only when the specific key is pressed?
Or any other method to copy or move the child editpart?

thanks for reading.

We are working on a REQ_CLONE request for the 3.0 release. It will be
active when CTRL is being pressed.

I have such a setup but Its hard to make it clean. Lots needs to change
to support that. The problem is that orphans are children which have
already been born. And children do not maintain ALL information about
themselves. Some is in the parent. While you can easily clone the
model, one can not so easily clone the editPart which contains the
model. Well unless GEF changes some workings under the hood.

is their a repository for the experiment?

REQ_CLONE functionality is present in the latest build of GEF. It is
implemented in the Logic example by cloning the model objects (not
EditParts). You can check out this functionality for yourself by holding
down CTRL while dragging an object in the Logic example. Please note there
may be changes in the implementation for the 3.0 release.

I know you can clone the models, but how do you get them into an
editpart? They cant go through orpahn, because they are not orphans,
they have yet to be layed out right?

i actually made a cloning model factory and can clone too. this is how
i made cut-paste work. but it essentially sends the clone models back
throught he factory. orphans dont go through the factory do they?

CL

and by latest build, what do you mean? I am on 2.1.2 is their a
compatible build there?

anything new for GEF in 3.x, and how soo till 3.x is released??

It is up to you whether you use a CreationFactory or not. It is your
command, and you have access to the EditPart being cloned, so I don't see
why you should have any trouble cloning the object, and even transfering
"parent" properties to the new parent all within that command.

I was referring to the latest Integration build (found on the downloads
page). The most recent works with Eclipse 3.0 M6 - and contains some of the
new things that will be in GEF 3.0 - which will be released sometime near
the Eclipse 3.0 release.
