Referencing Files Outside The Project Directory [message #109978] Fri, 09 July 2004 09:09 Go to next message

I'm working with Eclipse 3.0 along with CDT 2.0. I have created a managed
make project and would like to add C++ class files (.h and .cpp files) to
my project. I have found the import menu item to do this trick, however,
it physically copies the files from their original location to the project
directory which I don't want to happen, rather, I would like the project
to reference the files in their original directory. I have also tried
selecting add new file and then clicking on the advanced button and
selecting link to existing file. This works in that the files are added to
the project by referencing them in their original location, however, no
build action for these classes are inserted into my managed make file.

Harry,
This is a known deficiency with the managed make system. It will be one
of the items we consider for the next release as there are a number of
people who have expressed a similar concern. I am sorry I don't have
better news,

Sean

Sean,
Thank you for your fast reply. Sorry I didn't take the time to parse over
the newsgroup for similar posts. This is a disapointment, but I can work
with this deficiency. I'm just glad I now know about the deficiency for I
would of wasted a few more hours trying to get something to work that is
obviously not implemented. I guess you can add me to the list that of
people that would like to see this feature implemented in some future
release. Thank you again for your reply.

Where would I 'vote' for this feature? It is VERY high on my personal
wish-list.
