I second that. Downloads are extremely slow and has been for quite a while
now. A zipped update site file would help some. I have several installations
(on different machines) and doing surgical copies between them after a
download has succeeded on one of them doesn't seem quite right.

A zipped update site could also be distributed through BitTorrent which
would lessen the strain significantly on the eclipse download site.

Kind regards,

Thomas Hallgren

Why not have torrents for the updates themselves? AFAIU this is exactly the
thing torrents are good for.

Using a zipped site rather than individual updates would make the Eclipse
update manager happy. You just select "New archived site" and install from
there. You may of course maintain your own local update site and deal with
individual updates but that requires a bit more administration. With the
present way of publishing the CDT (one update site == one version of the
CDT) it's simpler to just zip and publish the whole site.

Kind regards,

Thomas Hallgren

These are all great suggestions. If anyone wants to volunteer to set any
of this up, we'd surely appreciate it.

Cheers,
Doug

As I understand it, it has a wider scope than just CDT, or is the update
process managed within the CDT plugin ?
