Eclipse for Java and C++ [message #1067587] Tue, 09 July 2013 09:06 Go to next message

Hi. I loaded eclipse IDE and eclipse JEE on my Windows 7 Pro lap top. Very impressed.
HHowever I now want to use C++.

Can I add C++ to the eclipse IDE or do I need to load another. The later I tried but it didn't work - but before I get knee deep I thought I'd ask you guys the approach.

Any help gratefully appreciated. Cheers

Nigel,
You can certainly add features to your existing Eclipse installation, it was specifically designed for that. Here are the instructions: http://help.eclipse.org/kepler/index.jsp?topic=%2Forg.eclipse.platform.doc.user%2Ftasks%2Ftasks-124.htm

By the way, there is a link to these instructions on the Eclipse Downloads page. It's labeled "Compare & Combine Packages."

Eric first thanks, at least I know I'm going in the right direction.

However I get

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: XL C/C++ Compiler Support SDK 6.1.1.201302132326 (org.eclipse.cdt.xlc.sdk.feature.group 6.1.1.201302132326)

or if I try just CDT I get

Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
Software being installed: C/C++ Development Tools 8.1.2.201302132326 (org.eclipse.cdt.feature.group 8.1.2.201302132326)
Missing requirement: C/C++ Development Tools UI 5.5.0.201302132326 (org.eclipse.cdt.ui 5.5.0.201302132326) requires 'bundle

I assumed as java works and I have g++ that I was in good shape.

Any thoughts? Cheers

I don't know off the top of my head, but I'll move this topic to the CDT forum section where you'll probably get a more focused audience. I suggest you also reply with the details of your Eclipse version and what exact steps you've tried.

Many tx Eric.

I have loaded on my Windows

Eclipse IDE for Java Developers

Version: Indigo Service Release 2
Build id: 20120216-1857

I went help->Install software -> Selected all available sites and was offered CDT Main Features and CDT optional features.

I selected and clicked next to get the above errors.

If anyone can suggest next step it would be much appreciated.

I'll try an uninstall and starting again with C++ and Java a bit later without other input as I guess that will resolve the problem. But I asume I can update eclipse in situ if that is the issue?

Cheers

CDT 8.1.2 won't work on Indigo. 8.0.2 is that last version that will work. To install it, select the Indigo update site (Work it: Indigo), under Programming languages, select C/C++ Development Tools 8.0.2.

To get started with C++ on Windows. Check out this page:
http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/topic/org.eclipse.cdt.doc.user/concepts/cdt_c_before_you_begin.htm

You might already have what you need but it's good to double check.
