Startup with StarDust [message #1061935]

Hi All,

I want to startup/pilot with Eclips Process Manager (EPM - StarDust).
Want to use StarDust for BPM, then combine our 'information needs and information requirements' with it . . .
Or if this is not possible with StarDust i have to swith to Eclips Process Framework, maybe sombody can advice?

Platform:
- Windows XP (all Service Packs)
- System is fully patched
- 32 bits
- job is done as administrator
- installed JDK-7u2-windows-i586.exe

Followed the installation at //wiki.eclipse.org/Stardust/Project_Plan/Kepler_RC1:
(1) Installed Eclipse-java-kepler-RC1-win32.zip
> Checked the installation with Help>About Eclipse>Installation Details>Configuration
> & View Error Log (OK)
(2) Install BIRT (Help>Install New Software...)
> Checked the installation for errors (OK)
(3) Install Stardust (Help>Install New Software...)
> Checked the installation for errors (OK)

Now it was time for update checking (Help>Check for Updates) . . then things went wrong!
The installation is rolled-back!

Can sombody help me out?

Hi,

It seems that Eclipse has some troubles with Java 7 and the installation/update process of plugins which contains nested pack.gz files (please see Bug 402642). I have used the same mechanism us you but with JDK 1.6 and it was perfectly working.

Nevertheless please could you provide some stack traces which shows the error which is occurring during the update process?

* found a nice tutorial for %HOME% (1) problem at //www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1kXlahkwd4 timestamp 1:50 (thnx Southpaw018);
* Clean-up the system and reboot;
* after that starting up eclipse and following instructions at //wiki.eclipse.org/Stardust/Project_Plan/Kepler_M7;
* had a problem with GIT (2) but fixed it with 'GiT for Windows'

<> set the JDK location: Window > Preferences > Java > Installed JREs, and make sure that a JDK (not just JRE) is selected;
* at last i did 'check for updates' . . . passed (Yeah!);

Hi Sven & Folks,

Maybe you might have asked yourself a question . . why is he using 'Eclipse Kepler M7 Java EE IDE' instead of the latest 'Eclipse Kepler RC2 for Java Developers' distribution?

Well during my steep (Eclipse) learning curve i discovered that, when installing
- 'Stardust 1.0 RC1 for Eclipse 4.3 (Kepler)',or
- 'Stardust 1.0 RC2 for Eclipse 4.3 (Kepler)' and completed this version with the offline version 'Stardust 1.0 RC3' as base/starting configuration;

. . . the StarDust (/Infinity) functionality was surprisingly disappeared!?

For instance i could't create with 'file > new > project > Web >' a Dynamic Web Project . . maybe this was caused by the startup perils?

Can someone check this out, or tell my what i did wrong?

I cannot reproduce your exceptions. And I must admit that I'm a little bit confused. In your first post you've written that you've installed Eclipse-java-kepler-RC1-win32.zip but in the second post you've installed eclipse-jee-kepler-M7-win32.zip?
Hmm...doesn't matter. At the moment I've installed the Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers (for Kepler RC3) to spare me the additional installation of Birt. After that I've installed the "Stardust - Eclipse Process Manager" features. With this setup I'm able to to create a dynamic web project with enabled Stardust facets.

Oh - one idea comes into my mind. The "Stardust Portal" configuration is not visible if you have choosen a wrong server. It will only appear if you have selected an "Apache Tomcat v6.0" target runtime. At the moment Tomcat 7.0 is not supported by Stardust.

Sorry for the late response!

Your suggestion of:
- installing the Eclipse IDE for Java and Report Developers (for Kepler RC3) and after that
- the additional installation of the "Stardust - Eclipse Process Manager" features
- and selecting "Apache Tomcat v6.0" as target runtime did the job.
