Focus problems and backspace, arrows not working in 3.1 [message #104251] Fri, 23 September 2005 09:35 Go to next message

Hi,

I have been using Eclipse 3.1 for some months now (under WinXP). Today
it started behaving in a really bizarre way. First, I cannot move focus
from a text-editor into any other part of Eclipse (it is like the
text-editor keeps the focus no matter where I click). Secondly,
backspace and arrows have stopped working inside text-editors. This is
all very strange. I also tried Eclipse 3.1M4 and it demonstrates the
same problems!!!. However Eclipse 2.1 works fine. Googling has not
revealed any similar problems except for
http://dev.eclipse.org/newslists/news.eclipse.newcomer/msg04 237.html .
Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dimitrios

Actually the issue is not something related to Eclipse. After hours of
searching
and trying I found out that the source of evil was .... my mouse!
( http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_21 379505.html) It
sounds crazy that a dirty mouse can lead to such behaviour (especially
when it
comes to the backspace and arrows keys!!!). However I tried the mouse on a
different computer and got the same symptoms! When I cleaned the wheel,
everything came back to normal (in both computers)!

A great mystery that remains, is why Eclipse 2.1 was not affected at all!!!
