I wrote a multimedia program which implements MIDI playback. I create a
midi-stream in memory and pass it to the built-in player. That works
perfectly on the emulator, on my Sony/Ericsson and on some Nokias I've
tried. But not on all Nokias and not on Motorola V3i (the only Motorola
yet I could try). I have exception handling on all the function calls
which I suspect to fail but unfortunately the exception messages are
rather meaningless (like 'device error'), so I cant figure out what's
going really wrong there.
Of course I've only tried devices supporting CLDC-1.1/MIDP-2.0. And
those support polyphonic ringtones which means to me that they support
midi playback.
I'm not sure but I think I've heared that on-device debugging is
possible on some Motorola cell phones. I can perhaps get a second hand
V3i and it would be great if someone could point me out how to do
on-device debugging. There must be a a piece of software running on the
device itself and another piece on the front end (Eclipse). That seems
to be the only way to find out what's really going wrong.
TIA,
Hans

I've found out that it works alright with the JP-7 mdel. Thanks for
reading. But anyway, I don't have problems with this phone, but still
need debugging for Nokia and Motorola.

Thanks David,
the problem is that I don't own a Moto yet, but I found that I've an SDK
installed for Sony/Ericsson on-device-debugging. I'm happy to be an
owner of a SE but although I seem to have the latest version installed
my device (K770i) is missing in my list. I don't have trouble with my
software on that device but it would be interesting for learning anyway.
regards,
Hans
