Building Java Application to create/edit html [message #30685] Wed, 09 March 2005 01:43 Go to next message

Hi,

I am looking to create an application to create and edit a set of
webpages. These webpages will be predominantly html, with text and boxes
that are linked to databases and documents, as well as other pages. I
don't envisage the need for jsp, but it is possible. The Java application
will be a GUI with drag and drop icons onto a page, that will be created
as html. The icons/boxes will have to have properties, such as the
link/label/colour, etc.

I am still in the process of getting the requirements downpat, but I'm
trying to find an IDE to build it in. I have stumbled across Eclipse, and
just wondering if anyone has any advice? I'd really like some help with
understanding what plug-ins I will need and the files to download...I'm
thinking the GEF or VEP, I think, will be useful.

Any help is VERY much appreciated,
gabs

You may want to have a look at http://eclipsefaq.org.
One of the free samples that comes with the book is an HTML editor.

Thanks Chris. However, I am having trouble figuring out how to run the
HTML editor example. I downloaded the files, and have opened the file
HtmlEditor.java, but some of the files that need to be imported I don't
have. I have installed J2EE project, with GEF/VE/EMF, etc, but files like
org.eclipse.ui.texteditor.* seem to be missing.
Also, I have been trying to look through the FAQs, but I'm still not sure
how to run the example file. Do i have create a new project, and run it
from there, or is there another example file that runs it...

Sorry if my questions sound dumb, but I'm no expert, and I think I'm
getting overwhelmed with all the features. Help/advice would be greatful.

Cheers,
gabs
