Synchronize with external files [message #300801] Fri, 17 March 2006 04:21 Go to next message

Hello,

is it possible, to arrange a compare with external files, f.e.

- Project in workspace (not under source control, or other sourcecontrol as cvs) synchronize with moduls under source control (cvs)
or
- Project in workspace (not under source control, or other sourcecontrol as cvs) synchronize with files outside of workspace

with the same functions as the "Team Synchronize - View" (Override and Update ...) ?

Maybe an extension of the Team Synchronize View / Available synchronization types with something like other Files and File Chooser ...

Is there already an exisiting plugin with those features ?

Thanks for any hints !

Best Regards,
Christian

No, not possible.

You could import the contents as a project if you wanted. Eclipse will create a .project file for a simple project at the root of the project itself. It doesn't need to be under the workspace though. If you're using CVS, and each of the folders under the project has a CVS directory, then you'll be able to see the contents on a remote CVS server trivially.

OK, i could create a project with links to the filesystem

Sorry, i don't get it.

Sure, if i have to projects in workspace, i'm able to do a ' compare with each other ' , then
i get a Structure Compare - but i need a synchronize view.

what i really want to do is a compare of two projects, with all the features i have
in the synchronize view.

Normally i do a ' Compare with Branch or Version ' between a project in workspace
under cvs control, with another Version/Branch of that project in cvs.

I need a synchronize feature, where i normally only have a structure compare, f.e. =

Synchronize of a project in workspace under ClearCase control, with a
Branch/Version of that project in cvs.

Synchronize of a project in workspace under ClearCase control with
another project in workspace (after import) or a project in filesystem
outside workspace.

Thanks
Christian
