VE will not install. Error is No plug-in: "org.eclipse.ve.cde" included at runtime... [message #29205] Sat, 03 April 2004 18:54 Go to next message

I've got

Eclipse installed (eclipse-sdk-2.1.3-win32.zip)
It works fine.

I downloaded VE 0.5 (ve-runtime-0.5.0.zip)
I unzipped into the eclipse plugins directory. Apparently restarting
Eclipse got it to realize there were no files and it updated the install.
Under installation configuration, there was an error flag for the install
and it said I needed EMF.

And I downloaded emf_1.1.1_20031120_1149WL.zip
I unzipped and folowed the same steps as the VE. Under installation
configuration, EMF seems to work fine.

I tried to disable VE by adding it to the updated tab and then repair it.
No luck.

So I downloaded the XSD bit and got it working.

But I still can't get VE to work. The error message under the "installation
configuration" pane is now:
No plug-in: "org.eclipse.ve.cde" included at runtime.
No plug-in: "org.eclipse.ve.java.core" included at runtime.
No plug-in: "org.eclipse.ve.jfc" included at runtime.

Can anyone suggest how to get this working?

Am I installing these plug-ins correctly? (I can't find any coverage in the
help files, which talk about URLs for updates...but eclipse.org doesn't seem
to use the URL update model.)

Should I be using Eclipse 2.1 or 3.0?

Thank you
Scott

Sounds like you're making a relatively simple set up much more
complicated than it should be. You need to install all the required
plugins listed on the download page:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/downloads/drops/R-0.5.0 -200312051712/index.html
Try starting again with a clean install of Eclipse 2.1.2. Unzip the EMF
and GEF builds listed on that page onto your Eclipse directory. Unzip
the VE build to the same location. Start Eclipse, and the Visual Editor
should be activated and work correctly.

Jeff,

Thanks for your help.

Luckily I didn't have to start over -- just installed GEF and VE started
working automatically.

I don't know how I missed the "you must install these things before
installing VE" instructions :).
