what do you mean? a tab is just a character, how can it span multiple lines?

If I undestand what you're looking for correctly then CTRL+F6 will do the
trick.

mmm... I guess you're right, in that case I'm not familiar with any
configuration that can help him.
I think that an enhancement should be submitted to Eclipse platform team
