Hi there,

I have the following periodical Error:
Periodic workspace save: Could not save master table
Everything seems to be working fine except for that, any idea? The disk
is not full, maybe some permissions? I am no super user, under linux,
Version: 3.0.0
Build id: 200311211210

Thanks,

Christian Mercat

I recommend upgrading to the final Eclipse 3.0 release build (you are
using a development build). If you still get the error with the final
release, please enter a bug report in the Eclipse bugzilla. Attach your
workspace log file (workspace/.metadata/.log) to the bug report.

Having a better look at the error log, I saw that a file could not be
edited:

workspace/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.saf etable/org.eclipse.core.resources

and it was indeed not mine but belonging to root! So I copied it, super
user deleted it and moved it back to its original name (I could have
super user chown'ed it but I never remember the syntax :o) ). And now it
works... I hope it might help others.

I don't understand how I can do that, there is a update manager under
the help menu but even logged as root (that might be when the master
table got chown'ed to root), I could not make any use of it. It says
there are no updates available. The doc on upgrades is really thin, what
I could find on the forums was dating back to 2002 and obviously refered
to very old stuff... I don't want to lose the things (features seems to
be a reserved name) we have installed so far...

Ok, I got it, simply download the zip and unzip where the old one was,
quite simple. But the update manager thing is misleading, I thought it
could handle eclipse platform's updates...

The Eclipse update manager currently only upgrades between major
releases (2.1 to 3.0, for example). Since you had a build somewhere in
between, it wasn't able to upgrade. Infrastructure is being put in place
to make this work better in the future.
