Are user-specific plugins possible? [message #268077] Fri, 20 August 2004 13:59 Go to next message

I hope this question isn't too stupid: I am very new to Eclipse and am still in the process of
exploring it's many features.

Our IT people have implemented /usr/local on an NFS drive, which means /usr/local/eclipse is
available to all users on all workstations. In such an environment, is it possible for one user to
install a plugin on his or her local workstation only, rather than in /usr/local/eclipse/plugins?
We would like to try out some plugins on a single workstation before installing them company-wide,
if this is possible. Does eclipse have a configuration parameter that can specify two or more
locations from which plugins should be loaded?

TIA,

Dan.

You could use update manager to install a plugin in a different location
other than your core eclipse plugins folder.
The plugin registry gets updated in the user's workspace. This should not
affect other users using different workspace.
