per-project compiler settings, shared via cvs [message #262696] Tue, 20 July 2004 13:34 Go to next message

A co-worker set up per-project compiler settings for a project. As a
result, the file .settings/org.eclipse.jdt.core.prefs was created in the
project directory, and this new directory and file were both checked into
cvs.

When I did an update, I got them. This did not enable "Use Project
Settings" for the compiler options, so I selected it myself via the
project properties.

However, eclipse did not use the settings in the .settings directory.
Instead it created for me a new file
metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.core.resources/.projects/PROJ_ NAME/org.eclipse.jdt.core/.jprefs
and used it instead. This file, unlike the other, is not shared via CVS.

When does eclipse use one or the other? And can I request that it use one
over the other?

(We collectively use eclipse 3.0 on either osx and winxp.)

The bug report and some comparison has solved the
mystery.

While I'm nominally using eclipse v 3.0.0, build
200400251208, some machines have version 3.0.0 of
the Java Development Tools Core while at least one
other has 3.0.0.cheetah06. And it sounds like the
cheetah version brings the newer behaviour.

Thanks,
