"Available Software" Install disabled [message #261254] Wed, 16 July 2008 14:39 Go to next message

I have installed the base Java IDE package of 3.4, and I'm trying to add
some additional components. However, no matter which I select, the
"Install..." button and menu items remain greyed-out/disabled. What
obvious step am I missing here?

"installed" == "unpacked with something other than the built-in Windows
unzip tool?

What version of Java are you using to start Eclipse? Chances are you
need 5.0+.

See: http://wiki.eclipse.org/IRC_FAQ for more tips.

Did you select some items in the view before trying to click "Install..." ?

Yes, Winzip.

Both Sun Java 6 and IBM Java 6.

Yes

Will check the other references too. I actually manually added an
external plugin site, and the Install button was enabled for that one.

It's possible, though, that the items listed are all already installed?
In particular, I installed the base Java package and am trying to add WTP.
As far as I can tell, both from the list of installed features and from
trying to open web artifacts, WTP doesn't appear to be installed yet, but
perhaps it is?

Strangely, I added a third-party plugin and restarted, and now I can
select "Install" with WTP.

Smells like a bug. If you have the time to try to reproduce it, and can
document the steps you did to make it happen (including specifics about
your OS, java version, Eclipse zip, etc.), please open a bug. The
Equinox p2 guys love these sort of issues. :)
