3.4RC1 Permission problems when doing Help->Software Updates... [message #257358] Wed, 28 May 2008 17:43 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi,

doing Help->Sofware Updates... on 3.4M1 gives me a bunch of exceptions,
the lowest I get is:

Caused by: java.lang.RuntimeException: You have to be root to open port 427
at ch.ethz.iks.slp.impl.SLPCore.init(SLPCore.java:296)
at ch.ethz.iks.slp.impl.Activator.start(Activator.java:75)
at
org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.core.BundleContextImpl$2 .run(BundleContextImpl.java:1009)
at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method)
at
org.eclipse.osgi.framework.internal.core.BundleContextImpl.s tartActivator(BundleContextImpl.java:1003)
... 137 more

I don't know what ch.ethz.iks.slp is, but the message is clear I think.
After a while the software install dialog opens up and it appears like
nothing happened.

Has anyone else had this error?

Thanks,
Felix

This occurs also during startup... How is well known port access handled
on MS systems?
