I'm running eclipse 3.3.1 on Solaris 8. It starts up fine. However
if I click on a file in the Package Explorer it crashes with the
following error:

ld.so.1: /h/users/user/eclipse/eclipse: fatal: relocation error: file
/h/users/user/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles /96/1/.cp/libswt-gnome-gtk-3349.so:
symbol gnome_icon_theme_new: referenced symbol not found.\

I've googled the world over and cannot seem to find the cure to my ill.

Thanks for your help,
Jim

Hi Jim,

I found the following related threads :

http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-Lists/SuSE/2007-09/msg014 38.html
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-evolution-maint ainers/2007-September/003021.html

I found another thread in French on openSolaris newsgroup :

http://opensolaris.org/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=55149&t start=75

The problems seems more related to gnome and solaris rather than Eclipse, so I suggest you to ask on their newsgroups.
I forwarded too this thread to swt newsgroup, may be someone could help you to solve your problem.

Regards,

Mariot

I actually discovered my problem quite by accident. It was a little bit
of confusion on my part. I actually had two versions of eclipse running
on my machine for Solaris. One was 3.3.2 and the other was 3.3.1.1. I
was running 3.3.2 and the one for Solaris 8 was 3.3.1.1, once I had
figured this out and started using the correct one, my problem
disappeared. Just in case someone else has the same problem.

Thanks,
Jim

I have the same problem and I have googled the whole world over as well. Did you ever find a solution? I followed all the replies but none seemd to help.

Edit: to reply I had to join and now I have joined I can see that you had the answer. I shall go and torment the admin till he mends it (or gives me the su password).
