Fixed pie chart size with outside series labels [message #255863] Thu, 20 September 2007 05:09 Go to next message

Hi,

I'm currently designing a report with 4 pie charts inside (I'm using 2D
with depth, BIRT 2.2.0). I'd like the 4 pie charts to have exactly the
same size, with series labels outside the plot.
However, even when using the same width and height hints, I can't
achieve this. Depending on series data, the chart engine adapts the plot
size, and as a result, the 4 pie charts can look very different.
With inside series labels, it's working fine.
Is it possible to ask the chart rendering engine to use fixed plot size?

Thanks,
Fred

The problem is that the labels position and length will affect the size of
the chart, so the solution is either to put the labels inside the chart or
use tooltips instead. You can file an enhancement to get more control on the
chart size independently of labels, but in that case, it's likely that
labels will get truncated if they don't have enough space.

Thanks,

David

AFAIU, tooltips are not an option for me here, since they only show up
one by one (in terms of slice) with user interactivity (mouse click,
mouse over, ...) and then are not printable all together.

yes, indeed. Truncated, or with carriage returns added to display labels
on several lines.

(I filed bug #204677)
