Auto file refresh [message #253021] Thu, 03 April 2008 09:05 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Kinda a newbie question - I'm new to Europa...

When I open a file that's been changed in the file system (nearly always
when it's been checked out of source control) I get a message saying that
the resource is out of sync with the file system, and I have to refresh
it. I've checked "refresh automatically" in
Window->Preferences->Workspace but that doesn't appear to be working for
me (it used to in 3.1.2). Are there any logs I can check or things I can
test to try and work out what's going wrong?

Cheers

James

James,

The Error Log view will show logged problems. It shows the contents of
<workspace>/.metadata/.log. I think the auto refresh is done as the IDE
gains focus so if the change is happening without the IDE losing and
regaining focus, the refresh might not be done. I'm not sure about that
though...

Thanks. Unfortunately nothing appears in the error log, and the IDE's
definitely losing focus. Is there anything else you can think of I can
try? It's not a huge problem, but it is very annoying!

Cheers

James,

Other than opening a bugzilla, I can't think of anything else to try.
And likely it wouldn't be fixed in a maintenance stream (it's annoying
not show stopping) so the question of whether it fails in 3.4 would come
up. Is some type of mounted file system involved? Sometimes such
things can have issues with timestamp anomalies...

Yes, it is mounted (source is kept on a Solaris machine using SCCS,
development is done on a windows box), though I'm pretty sure the times
are synchronized on login and this has lasted a few days.

As you say, it's annoying but not fatal. As it's bugging me I guess I'll
download 3.4 and see what happens...

Thanks for your help

James
