CVS Reorg, Multiple Projects in a Workspace [message #252059] Mon, 17 March 2008 15:21 Go to next message

Our fearless leader decided he just had to reorganize our cvs source tree.

I had no idea how to communicate this to Eclipse..
..so I thrashed around awhile..
..and managed to get a new Checkout in my same Workspace.

It appeared as a second Project in the Workspace..
..but I haven't been able to work with it.

Eclipse seems to think that I already have a Project by that (new) name -
and that that Project doesn't exist.

I reckon at this point that the only thing I can do by myself..
(being tired of spinning my wheels)
..is just give up and create a whole new Workspace.
(after I figure out how to do /that/)

...but I wonder:

? Was there a way I could have done what I wanted?
(I don't even know how to say it in Eclipse-ese; point my Project to a
new cvs Checkout?)

? /Can/ one work with multiple Projects in a Workspace? Is it wise to try
to?

Thanks in advance,

I think it may depend on how big is the change that has been made to the
CVS source tree. If it were just a root folder change or a server
change, maybe you could have tried to right-click on your project, CVS,
"Change Sharing...".

Anyway, I learnt from my own experience that CVS support in Eclipse is
not so much flexible... and I feel there's no intention to improve it :-(

Of course! I have more than 40 projects in my workspace (some are tiny,
some huge), with dependencies from each other.

Cheers,
Mauro.
