open declaration problem [message #250029] Sun, 24 February 2008 14:38 Go to next message

Hi:

I downloaded from sun.com the SDK file java_ee_sdk-5_01-windows.exe
and installed it in E:/SUN/SDK.

I would like to see the source code of the built-in classes, so I select a
type in a .java file, say String, then right click and select Open
Declaration. Then I got "souce not found", and I click button "attach
source.." and set the source to E:/SUN/SDK/jdk/jre/lib/rt.jar

But I still get "source not found" error.

How can I fix this please?

Thank you very much

Wen

rt.jar is a jar file with the compiled class files. You need to attach
the actual source code. Sun provides source in a file called src.zip.
I believe you normally have to specifically select the option to install
source when installing the sdk.

Hi David:

I am using Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5 SDK Update 1
I ran through the installation again, and found no explicit option to
install src.zip.

After I re-installed the SDK, I did a search on the folder SDK and found
no src.zip at all.

Questions:
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Could the source code file in this SDK version be named differently?
If this version doesn't come with the source code file, can I download it
somewhere individually?

thank you very much

Hey Wen,

I don't know if the source attachment comes with the Enterprise Edition.
But from all my previous experiences, the src.zip came automatically
with the Standard Edition SDK. I never had to specify any options. You
might want to download this and look there. In my current installation
it is located directly in the SDK root folder.

Basing on the problem I encountered, can I make a suggestion to the
according development team?

When I tried to attached the source code for Open Declaration, the I got
the message in Eclipse asking me to find rt.jar, so obviously this needs
to change to src.zip.

Can anyone forward my suggestion to the concerned person?

Thank you

Please file a bug
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?product=JDT) with the steps
you made.
