I would like to create objects of a certain type when double clicking on the diagram background area. How do I register such a tool? It seems I need a mapping, but how to map the background?

Hi,

Thanks for this feedback. It is currently not possible. You can create a
feature request for this.

In DoubleClickEditPolicyProvider[1], we can see that
DoubleClickEditPolicy is only added for IAbstractDiagramNodeEditPart,
IDiagramEdgeEditPart and IDiagramNameEditPart.

Best regards,
